High-net-worth (HNW) collectors often look beyond the canvas when considering an emerging artist. While the art itself is undeniably crucial, these collectors are also investing in the artist's potential, their story, and their ability to become a lasting presence in the art world. Here's what they look for: Impact of the Art: Unique Vision: HNW collectors are drawn to artists with a distinct voice and a fresh perspective. They want art that challenges conventions, sparks conversation, and pushes boundaries. Technical Skill: While innovation is important, collectors also value strong technical skills. They want to see mastery of the chosen medium, whether it's painting, sculpture, or mixed media. Conceptual Depth: The art should go beyond aesthetics and have a deeper meaning or message. It should provoke thought, evoke emotion, and resonate with the viewer on a personal level. Market Potential: Collectors often consider the investment potential of an emerging artist. Is their work likely to appreciate in value? Do they have a growing following and critical acclaim? Read More

The human heart. It's more than just a pump, more than just a metaphor for love and emotion. I've always been fascinated by the idea that it generates an electromagnetic field, a "file of energy" that extends beyond our physical bodies. As an artist, I'm drawn to the unseen forces that shape our world, the subtle energies that connect us all. My journey into the world of art began with traditional techniques – oils, watercolors, the classic forms. But I always felt a pull towards something deeper, a way to express the intangible. That's when I started experimenting with incorporating elements of nature into my work. Leaves became brushes, sand transformed into textured landscapes, and fire etched raw emotion onto my canvases. I even began capturing rainwater, letting it dance with pigments and create unpredictable patterns on my canvases. It felt like I was collaborating with the very essence of the sky, harnessing the energy of the storm. My art, I believe, is a reflection of these unseen energies. The colors, the textures, the forms – they all speak to something beyond the visual. I strive to create art that resonates with the viewer on an emotional level, tapping into the heart's electromagnetic field and perhaps even influencing the subtle energy systems that flow through us. I've explored the concept of auras, those luminous fields that some claim to see around the human body. While science hasn't quite caught up with this idea, I can't help but wonder if my art interacts with these subtle energies, creating a ripple effect that extends beyond the canvas. And then there are the chakras, those energy centers that have been recognized in Eastern traditions for centuries. Could my art, with its vibrant colors and evocative forms, stimulate and balance these chakras? Could it promote healing and a deeper sense of connection? The heart-mind connection is another area that fascinates me. The heart has its own "brain," a complex network of neurons that communicates with the brain in ways we're only beginning to understand. Perhaps my art, by evoking strong emotions and stimulating the imagination, can influence this intricate dialogue between the heart and mind. I've seen firsthand how art can move people, how it can evoke joy, sorrow, wonder, and a whole spectrum of emotions. If these emotions can influence our heart's electromagnetic field and potentially even our subtle energy systems, then art becomes a powerful tool for healing and transformation. Read More

The Heart's Electromagnetic Field: * Science:  The heart is the strongest generator of electromagnetic energy in the human body. This field, measured by an electrocardiogram (ECG), can be detected several feet away from the body. * What we know: This field changes with our emotions.  Positive feelings like love and compassion create more coherent, ordered patterns in the heart's field, while stress and negative emotions create more chaotic patterns. * Potential implications: Research suggests this field might interact with the fields of others, contributing to phenomena like empathy and intuition. John Dowling Jr. is not just a painter; he is a storyteller, a weaver of narratives that transcend the canvas and delve into the depths of human emotion. His artistic journey, marked by a lifelong dedication to creative expression, has culminated in a remarkable body of work that encompasses both visual and literary artistry. Dowling's recent foray into the literary world with his debut novel, "Chapters of Love," offers a glimpse into the heart and mind of this modern-day Renaissance man. The novel, a poignant exploration of love, loss, and the search for connection, reveals Dowling's profound sensitivity and his uncanny ability to capture the nuances of human relationships. In the opening chapter, we are introduced to a protagonist grappling with the aftermath of heartbreak, his soul weary from years of unrequited love and shattered dreams. Dowling's prose is raw and honest, painting a vivid portrait of a man wrestling with vulnerability, longing, and the fear of repeating past mistakes. Echoes of literary giants resonate throughout Dowling's writing. His introspective musings on the nature of love and the complexities of human connection recall the introspective narratives of Proust and Dostoevsky. His evocative descriptions of fleeting moments and the raw beauty of nature evoke the poetic sensibilities of Wordsworth and Thoreau. Read More

John Dowling Jr.'s life story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, a tale of overcoming adversity through the transformative power of art. While his artistic journey is remarkable in itself, it's his personal battle with a rare genetic disorder and a series of health challenges that truly highlights the profound impact art therapy has had on his life. A Body Betrayed: Dowling's life has been marked by a relentless struggle against a rare genetic mutation that affects his body's ability to metabolize fats. This condition has led to the progressive deterioration of his arteries, resulting in blockages throughout his body, including his heart, legs, and even his brain. He has endured countless procedures, including multiple bypass surgeries and the placement of over 100 stents, in an attempt to restore blood flow and alleviate the constant pain. A Stroke of Misfortune: In a cruel twist of fate, Dowling suffered a stroke in 2022 after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. This devastating event robbed him of his ability to speak, write, and even recognize the alphabet. Faced with the daunting task of relearning basic life skills, Dowling found himself in a battle for his very identity. Read More

The secondary art market, where artworks are resold, often sees astronomical prices that can seem baffling to the average person. While scarcity and historical significance play a role, the reality is that these high prices are often heavily influenced by a complex web of factors, including market manipulation and the subjective tastes of powerful collectors. The Illusion of Value: While art can appreciate in value, treating it solely as a financial investment is misguided. Unlike stocks or real estate, the art market is largely unregulated and opaque. Prices are often driven by subjective opinions, trends, and the whims of a select group of influential collectors and dealers. Manipulation and the Status Quo: The secondary market is often dominated by established collectors who have a vested interest in maintaining the value of their existing holdings. They may use their influence and financial power to manipulate the market through practices like: Self-Dealing: Bidding on their own pieces at auctions to create artificial demand and inflate prices. Influencing Appraisals: Exerting pressure on appraisers to assign high valuations to their collections, regardless of true market value. Controlling the Narrative: Using their connections in the art world to promote certain artists or styles, often those that align with their existing holdings, while downplaying or ignoring others. This manipulation can create a self-fulfilling prophecy, where artworks that are favored by influential collectors become highly sought-after, even if their artistic merit is questionable by today's standards. This can lead to a disconnect between true artistic value and market value, leaving many artists and art lovers feeling alienated from the art market. A Shift Towards Emerging Artists and New Aesthetics: Fortunately, there's a growing movement among a new generation of collectors who are challenging the status quo. They are drawn to emerging artists who are pushing the boundaries of creative expression, embracing new technologies and multi-disciplinary approaches. These collectors value innovation, originality, and art that reflects the complexities of our contemporary world. This shift represents a potential turning point in the art market, a move away from the manipulation and subjective tastes of the established elite towards a more inclusive and diverse art ecosystem. While the secondary market may continue to be influenced by speculative forces, the growing appreciation for emerging artists and new aesthetics offers a refreshing alternative, driven by genuine artistic passion and a desire to connect with art that is both meaningful and relevant to our times. Abstract art can significantly affect a person's mood by stimulating various areas of the brain associated with emotion, memory, and decision-making, often leading to a more engaged and introspective state due to the open-ended nature of interpretation where viewers actively create meaning from the artwork using their own experiences and imagination; this process can be both stimulating and therapeutic, potentially evoking a range of emotions depending on the piece and the individual viewer. Abstract art challenges the brain to make sense of ambiguous forms and colors, activating areas associated with creativity, imagination, and cognitive processing in the prefrontal cortex. By prompting personal interpretation, abstract art can evoke a wide spectrum of emotions, allowing viewers to connect with their own experiences and subconscious feelings. Read More
